Avatars have guided humanity from their inception through the mastery of the four elements and the bond between body and spirit. Reincarnating through the generations to maintain balance; they bring peace to ages of strife and calamity. Through their leadership the world began to take shape, kingdoms rising in the name of the four elements. Mankind spreading to the farthest reaches of the world. Taming the spirit wilds into prosperous civilization for all.

A hundred years ago, Avatar Roku created a lasting argument for peace by brutalizing a revolting Firelord, burying his friend under half a collapsing palace. While savage, the act of violence gave the world peace to this very day. The Avatars that followed were a spiritual recluse and an avant-garde spirit that led to the foundation of Republic City some twenty years ago, a hub for all progressive thinkers and revolutionaries. Ao-Ji is this cycle’s Avatar on the brink of adulthood, closely taught and guarded by the White Lotus.

Some say the ancient order seeks to have a greater influence of the line of Avatars, former Avatars having been too removed after the impact of Avatar Roku. But why should the White Lotus decide the fate of the Avatar and thus the fate of the world? The world is at odds, traditional systems against the rise of technology. This battle is not one of war but one of time.

AVATAR ROKU: Born a hundred years before the foundation of Republic City, Avatar Roku never lived to see the effects of his doings and neither did he plan it. Nevertheless, his clash with the Firelord created an era of peace that would cause the ambition of following leaders to suffer. When Firelord Sozin wanted to abuse the power of a nearing comet to fuel all fire-bending for an offensive war, Roku valued the peace of the world over mercy for an old friend and Sozin perished. The line of Firelords continued with a younger brother, Roku fading into absence due to the brutality of his actions but the leaders of the world knew: If he could remove a friend from the face of the world, he could remove anyone. For the sake of peace. At a great cost to his soul.

AVATAR MEING: Born some fifty years after Roku's clash with the Firelord, the former Avatar met a fate worthy of his name, perishing in the fiery rains of a volcano. Roku saved an entire island but he and his loyal dragon faded. Reborn in the body of an airbender, Meing was a calm child and a spiritual learner. Never faced with harsh political decisions, the aftermath of Roku's execution of Sozin lived on as a warning reminder of the Avatar's power. In truth, Meing was glad. A religious leader, Meing spent more time in meditation and the Spirit World. Disconnected from the physical realm, her teachings returned the ability to fly to a select few Air Nomads. She was said to be wise beyond her years but perhaps too untethered. She never returned one day from the Spirit World, her body growing pale and lifeless while her words of wisdom still whisper through the halls of the Western Air Temple in the form of ghostly winds.
[break][break]
AVATAR KRAATASH: Almost a young man when he was selected, Kraatsh had already removed himself from worldly struggles but for other reasons than Avatar Meing. A loud individual, he wanted to see the world and travel. And he did. Studying the elements on his journey through the realms of the world, he always recalled the stern talks of his parents, telling him to mind his business, telling him to settle down and live a simple life. Following his own path, it was never his style to tell another to not follow theirs. Instead of telling people to change, he empowered the qualities that made them, for better or for worse. Over the years, the revolutionary spirits that had filled the world ever since the rise of technologies found a personal champion in Avatar Kraatsh, an agent of diversity. He founded Republic City to serve as a haven for all souls not fitting in the stern ways of feudal nations clinging to old ways of aristocracy. Perhaps the leaders of the world played along with the young Avatar's dreams of a city of wonder out of pragmatic reasons. Exiling all progressive energy to an out-lying city allows one to keep the peace at home. Avatar Kraatsh perished only years after the foundation of Republic City in an accident that never got cleared up even though people generally attributed it to his youthful disposition. The resulting surge of electricity pumped the life of a thunder storm into the veins of the city, kickstarting its legacy and immortalizing Kraatsh's spirit of hands-on enlightenment.

AVATAR AO-JI: Republic City has existed for twenty years. Ao-Ji has existed for eighteen. Or perhaps it should be said that they exist. A secret kept by the White Lotus, only a few people know that Ao-Ji reflects the broken spirit of the world, old souls sticking to traditions and brave hearts that seek exploration. An untold precedent, Ao-Ji is not a single person but a pair of twins born to an Earth Kingdom family. The future of the world untold, the White Lotus decided to have the Avatar(s) grow up in a remote location, hoping to educate them to a greater end and benevolent wisdom. But one cannot chain freedom and the split that exists between two people even exists between the two siblings, even though they share one soul. The world is at odds with the concept of balance. Stretches of land exist that haven't change their face in the last two-hundred years. Other cities and spots exist that are hubs of technologies. Can an Avatar born of two worlds unite them?
